LIP APPLICATION AND NEW SUMMER FUN FOR JUBILEE PARK

Regular users of Jubilee Park will know that Spennymoor Town Council have plans to regenerate the existing play provision within the Park. Following extensive consultation with park users and Groundwork East Durham, a 'master plan' to improve the park to the nationally recognised Green Flag standard has been submitted to the Sedgefield Borough Council with a view to obtaining LIP (Local Improvement Project) funds to assist the Council. It is hoped that this will enable major regeneration of the play and leisure facilities currently within the park. If approved, the £300,000 scheme, which will be funded by £100,000 from the Town Council's budget and hopefully, £200,000 from LIP, will bring new play equipment to the park for toddlers and over 8's. In response to public consultation, a multi-use Games Area, a full suite of Adult Fitness 'Play' facilities and a Skate Park, will be added, bringing the already well used centre of regionally recognized horticultural excellence into fuller leisure use. In the meantime, the Town Council have invested in some large scale popular board games including 'Giant Jenga,' 'Giant Connect Four,' 'Giant Snakes and Ladders,' 'Giant Dominoes' and 'Giant Drafts,' to inject some new fun into the park over the school holidays. Each game costs just 50p per player for 30minutes play with a £1 refundable deposit, payable to the park attendant on duty who wears a burgundy Town Council Uniform. All children must be accompanied by a responsible adult. In addition the traditional games of bowls, tennis and crazy golf remain. "Why not make a day of it and take a picnic?" said a spokesperson for Spennymoor Town Council.
