Jamie wins bronze in Zagreb

Jamie Abley from Spennymoor has become Chi Taekwondo’s first European medallist. Jamie won bronze in - 41kg class at the European Cadet Championships in Zagreb, Croatia. He won his 1st round match 3:1 against Portugal, beat Bulgaria 6:1 in the second round and then beat Russia in the quarter final on Golden Kick. He narrowly lost his semifinal to Germany but still picked up a Bronze medal. Jamie had an extra reason to be proud during the championships; he was selected to lead out the British team in the Championships and carry the flag for his country. Jamie’s instructor Russell Shaw (4th Dan) said, “Jamie started training at our club when he was five and he has come far since then.” Russell continued “Not only am I proud of him, but the whole club are behind him and will support him in the future as we are sure he will go on to much bigger things.”
